A double bind is also known as a contradiction.
"Stop being self-conscious" "Try to relax" "Be spontanious
Society has many double binds with its view of the individual but conformity is ultimately required. Those in the society who choose to break free of these shackles and not let language or defined assumptions be the measuring stick will be the free ones.
